FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
RINE, SHOEMAKER, SAYLER, AND WYLES SCORE BEDFORD WINS
By Dave Harclerode
BEDFORD, PA - Jeff Rine topped a very talented Super Late Model field to score
his second win of the season. Mike Shoemaker extended his point lead with
a win in the Limited Late Models, and Jim Sayler proved he's top dog in the Street
Stocks with his third win of the year. Shawn Wyles scored his first win
of the season in the Cruiser Hobby Stocks.
In Super Late Model action, Jeff Rine put his Elbin family owned # 92 out front
early, and set a blistering pace all race long. Second generation driver
Andy Martz ran the super late model race of his career, chasing Rine all night
in the second position. The real story of this race was for the third position. Jack
Pencil, Scott Haus, and Scott Rhodes looked fast early, changing positions many
times. Pencil appeared to have the third spot locked up, but veteran driver
Larry Wright was on the move from 8th spot. Wright caught the trio racing
for third with 10 to go, and immediately moved to the top side. Rhodes
was the first to fall, then Haus, and with two to go Wright worked past Pencil
for third. Pencil finished the race in fourth, with Haus fifth. Rodney
Sweitzer, Wayne Johnson, Scott Rhodes, Chuck LaSalle, and Eric Zembower completed
the top 10.
Greg Fetters, Scott Haus, and Chris Harr won the heat events.
Mike Shoemaker put his white and orange # 8 in victory lane for the second week
in a row in the Limited Late Model division. Shoemaker led the entire distance,
but it wasn't a run away win. Mike Altobelli, Jr. stayed glued to his bumper
for the whole race, taking several looks to the low side without success. All-time
Limited Late Model winner Tim Smith, Jr., who has some real bad luck this season,
finally go the monkey off his back with a solid third place finish. Craig
Perigo finished fourth, and Coleby Frye fifth. Sixth through tenth was
Shane Bilger, Rance Garlock, George Beckett, John Hedge, and Andy Teno.
Heats went to Frye and Shoemaker.
Bob Jay and Jim Sayler are in one whale of a tight points battle for first and
second in the Street Stock division, and Friday's racing action proved why. Jay
topped Sayler by one position in heat race action, and Sayler finished first
in the feature, with Bob Jay finishing a close second. Rick Cragan, Jr.,
Travis Calhoun, and Donald Wyles completed the top five. Ashley Barrett
dropped out of the race while running second.
Heat winners were Barrett and Jay.
Lincoln Ritchey appeared to win his second feature of the season in the Cruiser-Hobby
Stock division, but a post race tech inspection send Ritchey home soured by a
disqualification. The DQ gave the win to Ritchey's teammate Shawn Wyles. Barry
Weyandt, point leader Chuck Weyant, and Brian Weyandt, Jr. completed the top
five.
Barry Weyandt, Brian Weyandt, Jr., and Ritchey won the heat events.
There will be no racing action at the speedway this coming Friday, but a great
night of racing is on tap for Sunday, July 3rd. The Firecracker 35 PA State
Late Model Invitational will pay $ 2,500 to win, and $ 200 to start. Tow
money will be paid to non-qualifiers. The Limited Late Models, Street Stocks,
and Cruiser Hobby Stocks will also be on hand. Gates open at 4pm, with
hot laps at 7pm, and racing at 7:30pm. The raindate for the event will
be Monday, July 4th, with all gate and start times one hour earlier.
